Uralvagonzavod (included in Rostec State Corporation) has designed and launched into mass production a new assault all-aspect protection system for the Т-80BVM tanks. Utilization of special high-strength steel ropes (cables) is the key feature of the system designed to protect the fighting vehicles against unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) attacks.

Until recently, such protective shields have been fabricated by maintenance teams and tank crew directly in the field. UVZ’s designers have analyzed this experience and created a reliable standard alternative to field modifications.

The new system covers the vehicle in all projections. In case of impact, steel ropes deform the armor-piercing munition shell or cause munition detonation at a safe distance from the main armor. Moreover, a flexible structure doesn’t reduce the tank mobility, limit the crew visibility and interfere with sighting system operation.

The assault protection system is already available as part of new batches of the Т-80BVM delivered to the field for fulfillment of special missions in the special military operation zone. The Т-80BVMs equipped with gas turbine engines prove to be highly effective, and the new protection system considerably improves their resistance in modern combined arms operation conditions.
