Rostec engineers have created a 30 mm airburst shrapnel shell designed to effectively hit drones. The munition will be first showcased in Rosoboronexport’s (included on Rostec) consolidated national exposition at World Defense Show 2026.
The round is designed for small-caliber artillery systems equipped with the 2A42 machine cannon. Such cannons are also mounted on airborne assault vehicles, BMP-2, BPMT, Mi-28NM and Ka-52M helicopters and other carriers.
“The munition is designed to increase the likelihood of hitting small drones and loitering munitions. Sighting system calculates the most advantageous detonation point according to the target flight path, allowing for reaching a drone with shrapnel. Time for detonation is input automatically via an optical line. The munition can significantly increase the efficiency of 30 mm cannons mounted on various vehicles for hitting drones,” said Bekhan Ozdoev, Industrial Director of Weapons, Ammunition and Special Chemicals Cluster of Rostec.
World Defense Show 2026 (WDS 2026) will be held on 8-12 February 2026 in Riyadh (Saudi Arabia).
