Rostec State Corporation has supplied a batch of 2B24 82mm light mortars to the Russian Armed Forces. The weapon has a simple and functional design and light weight. Therefore, infantry units, including mountain infantry, may be equipped with the mortars.
The mortar design uses modern materials that have reduced its weight. As a result, a crew of just a few soldiers can move the gun and ammunition by themselves. This enables non-mounted infantry units to use the weapon in hard-to-reach terrain, for example, in forests and mountains. Moreover, the 2B24 may be quickly put to use – the crew will deploy the mortar just within 30 seconds.
“Despite its simplicity, the mortar is an effective antipersonnel, antishelter and antiarmor weapon. It has several distinguishing features. For example, their is a rotator that allows firing from any types of soil. Thus, it is important to emphasize that mortar efficiency grows in conjunction with modern guidance and live recording systems such as UAV,” said Bekhan Ozdoev, Industrial Director of the Conventional Weapons and Special Chemicals Cluster of Rostec.
Rostec produces a range of fire systems and ammunition: the Msta-S and Malva self-propelled guns, Drok self-propelled mortar, 2B11 towed mortar, etc.
