Russian crews have been competing in UVZ tanks since 2013, the year when the Tank Biathlon was held for the first time. Since 2015, they have been using T-72B3 tanks.

T-72B3 tanks have a number of advantages over other tanks – new engine, advance digital communications system, panoramic commander's thermal imaging camera, rear view camera, voice alert system warning of critical operating modes of various units, and a number of other improvements.

It is to be recalled that this year the Tank Biathlon competition included 19 teams: from Russia, Azerbaijan, Angola, Armenia, Belarus, Venezuela, Zimbabwe, India, Iran, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, China, Kuwait, Laos, Mongolia, Nicaragua, Serbia, Tajikistan and Uganda. Four best teams reached the final stage of the competition.
