Mechanical Engineering Research Institute Named After V.V. Bahirev of JSC Technodinamika has implemented supercomputing technologies and digital twins to create new ammunition. Virtual research has been conducted to calculate the main characteristics of gunshots such as the acceleration of a bullet in the barrel, external ballistics, and armor penetration. The use of new technologies significantly reduces military testing and implementation costs as well as improving operating terms.

The goal of the project, which was launched in 2018, was the development of a supercomputer twin of the “Twin – KS” tank shell. The project necessitated the development of supercomputing technology for simulation of explosions and shell behavior while interacting with an obstacle.

“The results of conducted work have shown high accuracy of simulations during real-life testing performed at the proving ground. This has confirmed the need to implement digital twins. In 2021, based on extensive R&D, we have prepared three projects employing domestic supercomputing simulation technologies. Having collaborated with State Corporation Rostec, we implemented and are currently agreeing on the Digital Transformation Strategy for all the defense enterprises which are part of the holding management”, said CEO of JSC Technodinamika Igor Nasenkov.
