Trial run of the first Mi-171A2 simulator has been started at the Ulan-Ude-based aircraft factory, Russian Helicopters holding. The system is designed for initial training, proficiency training or retraining on flying such type of helicopters. The simulator, unlike a training helicopter, helps to practice any abnormal situations and, thus, to improve the pilot experience level.

The simulator cockpit was made by the aircraft factory in Ulan Ude and duplicates the real aircraft cockpit. The avionics systems are also the same – the training system simulates operation of all airborne systems and, therefore, helps to improve flying skills in all flight modes in visual and severe meteorological conditions. And the cockpit procedure training capability in case of airborne equipment failure, pilot’s error and other abnormal situations is one of the key advantages of the simulator. When pilots train using a real helicopter, they are unable to practice such scenarios.

The simulator is equipped with an advanced visual system providing full view from the pilot’s station. Highly detailed maps of various helipads, including Ulan Ude and Adler airfields, are downloaded in it to ensure the maximum realistic reconstruction of take-off and landing conditions. The system is also furnished with a motion platform simulating vibration accelerations and sensations in all flight conditions.
