Rostec and Aluminiy Metallurg Rus to Launch the Manufacture of Exoprostheses

Rostec State Corporation, together with Aluminiy Metallurg Rus (AMR), is setting up import-substituting manufacture of high-tech components for exoprostheses. There are also plans to establish a prosthetic and orthopedic shop network throughout Russia. The first products are to roll off the production line as early as this spring.

Advanced high-tech exoprostheses manufacturing will be set up on the basis of one of the oldest manufacturing facilities in Russia – MPO Metallist, which is the first prosthetic factory in the country. Rostec has raised 1 bln Rubles of direct private investments for the project implementation.

“Private sector involvement in the joint venture will help to establish a prosthetic and orthopedic shop network in Russia within a limited time period, and to set up the development and manufacture of a modern family of components for exoprostheses. We act within the instruction of the President of Russia regarding the need for domestic prosthetic manufacture under the import substitution program. In order to ensure high-quality life for people with missing limbs, it is important to launch continuous production by using the best domestic and foreign practices. This is the goal of our joint venture,” said Maksim Vybornykh, Deputy General Director of Rostec.

At the first stage, the company will focus on knee modules with mechanical and pneumatic assemblies, and artificial feet made from carbon fiber. Right now, a series of modern adjustment and connecting devices for artificial lower limbs has been developed and introduction into commercial production has been started.
