The VR-Technologies design bureau of Russian Helicopters holding of Rostec State Corporation and Pratt & Whitney Canada have signed a contract for equipping the latest lightweight VRT500 helicopter with PW207V gas turbine engines as part of the Dubai Airshow international air show.

PW207V is the latest modification of the PW200 family of engines which are designed for light class helicopters, it is capable of developing power up to 700 hp. More than 5 thousand power plants of this type in total have been produced at the moment, and their total flight time exceeds 11 million hours.

“The PW200 family of engines has proven themselves as reliable power plants for light helicopters, today they are operated in more than 80 countries, which will greatly simplify the foreign certification of VRT500 and make its after-sales service more affordable and efficient. Russian Helicopters have successful experience of cooperation with Pratt & Whitney Canada, and I’m sure that the VRT500 project will strengthen the partnership between the two companies”, said Andrei Boginsky, CEO of Russian Helicopters.

“We congratulate the VR Technologies on the launch of the VRT500 project and are proud that the PW207V engine was chosen for it. We very much look forward to collaborative work to enable this innovative platform to achieve global success”, said Anthony Rossi, Vice President for Business and Commerce Development at Pratt & Whitney.

For installation on the VRT500, the PW207V engine will be adapted for operating on a single-engine helicopter with the appropriate changes to the type certificate.
