United Engine Corporation is working in India on the establishment of licensed production of the AL-55E engines designed specifically for the HJT-36 trainers that were named Yashas after undergoing in-depth modernization. Currently, there are 18 engines in operation that have been delivered for certification testing of trainers.
A modern dual-channel full-authority and hydro-mechanical backup digital engine control system ensures reliable and safe operation in a single engine aircraft. The engine design features maintainability allowing many activities to be conducted without disassembling the engine from the aircraft.
UEC has delivered eighteen AL-55E prototype engines for flight tests. The engine has a full military thrust of 1,760 kgf and the smallest intake diameter compared with similar products in this thrust class. UEC currently provides full assistance to the aircraft designer to maintain continued airworthiness of the engines at the customer’s site.
The Al-55E dual-flow turbojet engine can be also used for various UAVs.
