VSMPO-AVISMA to deliver titanium to India

According to VSMPO-AVISMA press-release, the enterprise is to deliver titanium products to the Larsen & Toubro (L&T) shipbuilding company.

At the moment contract price and volumes are not made public. However, Indian media say that the first country’s atomic submarine has already been constructed and undergone the tests. The project covers 4 more similar submarines made with the use of titanium alloys.

Within the SMM India-2013 shipbuilding exhibition held in Mumbai on April, 4-6, VSMPO-AVISMA discussed the contract details with L&T. The agreement provides for titanium production delivery to the Indian company in the third quarter of 2013. L&T is the biggest construction-engineering enterprise in the country.

Russian party is intended to expand its partnership agreements with India, which is trying to return to being an important maritime state and thus develop the shipbuilding industry.

India’s share in global shipping before 2007-2008 crisis was 20%.

Indian companies are also actively developing hydrocarbon deposits on continental shelf, which in its turn requires new technologies and materials for construction.

Last September VSMPO-AVISMA signed a Memorandum of Cooperation with the Mishra Dhatu Nigam Limited metallurgy company and Russian-Indian Science and Technology Centre. The documents provided for implementing joint projects on titanium goods promotion.

VSMPO-AVISMA is the world’s largest manufacturer of titanium, ingots and all the sorts of titanium alloys semi-finished materials, large-scale aluminum moulded parts, semi-finished products made of alloyed steels, and nickel-based heat-resistant alloys. The enterprise employs approximately 19 thousand people. Control stock of the company is owned by the titanium giant, and blocking stock is owned by Rostekhnologii State Corporation.
