Obninsk Research and Production Enterprise Technologiya named after A.G. Romashin has started commercial production of cab glazing for the Moskva-2024 trains used by the Moscow Metro. The first sets of head cars have been already delivered to the customer.

Ultra thin metal oxide film applied to the glazing surface is the key feature of the products. Thickness of the layer is not more than 60 nm – thinner than a human hair. The coating carries electrical current that uniformly heats the structure. Owing to this, the glass remains fully transparent in cold weather and at temperature drops. For example, when the train exits a tunnel to an open line section.

“The technology provides complex geometry and futuristic design products. Such as, for example, windshield glazing for the new Moskva-2024 trains and for the Baltiets cars used by the Saint Petersburg Metro. We will make glazing sets for a total of 40 trains of Moscow’s subway and another 7 sets for St. Petersburg’s subway in addition to 26 sets that have been already delivered. Participation in these projects is another demonstration of Rostec’s leadership position in high-performance glazing production where the Corporation holds 70% of the Russian market,” said Rostec’s representatives.
