The Amber Fashion House of the Kaliningrad Amber Combine has created a dress out of natural amber with fossil plant and insect inclusions. The total weight of stones in the new product is two kilograms. The unique dress, where fabric was fully replaced with amber, was first presented at the fashion show in Kaliningrad on 28 February.

The amber dress consists of 1,250 transparent plates, all of which contain a fossil inclusion — a bark, soil, flower, pine needle particle. All this rendered a unique pattern. To provide smooth color transition in the ‘amber fabric’ — from dark to light — the plates were hardened in special furnaces. Depending on the thermal treatment time, they got six different tints: cherry, dark cognac, cognac, light cognac, lemon and transparent.

It took three months to make this peculiar product. Jewelers first prepared 40mm x 15mm transparent amber plates that were only 1mm in thickness. Most of the time was spent on this. Then, each plate was sewn to a veiling base using a special curved needle and superfine fishing twine.

Along with the unique dress, the Amber Combine has also made other women’s and men’s clothing containing Baltic gems. There are a total of 60 prototypes, including shirts, skirts, jackets and even jeans with amber embroidery and mosaic. The clothes are supplemented by unusual accessories, for example, an amber coffee or water cup holder handbag.
