Rostec has Created a ‘Digital’ Engine for Yak-130 Aircraft

Rostec’s United Engine Corporation in partnership with Moscow Aviation Institute has created a digital mockup of commercial AI-22-25 engine for Yak-130 training and combat aircraft.     The virtual propulsion will be used for training engine manufacturing personnel on assembly operations as well as for modernization of this type of engines.

The mockup includes about 4 thousand 3D digital models, which completely follow the shape and dimensions of the commercial engine and have the specified weight. The digital propulsion components may be used to fully assemble the AI-222-25 in a digital form.

“Introduction of digital mockups helps to reduce time and material expenditures for engine modernization or development.    The virtual unit composed of thousands of digital parts makes it possible to assess the performance of the whole structure when any of its components is changed. The technology will be also used to train production personnel because the ‘digital engine’ is a convenient visual assembly guide,” said the representatives of Rostec’s aircraft complex.

In addition to the virtual commercial engine, an export version mockup of this propulsion is to be completed by Moscow-based Salyut company in early 2023. The project work was carried out in close cooperation with Moscow Aviation Institute.
