United Engine Corporation has delivered the first batch of import-substituted spark plugs for SaM146 aircraft engines to the SSJ-100 operators. The product has been tested, certified by the Federal Air Transport Agency and may be used in propulsion systems instead of foreign equivalents.

An additional type certificate for SaM146 aircraft engine with domestically made spark plugs was issued by the Federal Air Transport Agency in late October on request of Rybinsk-based UEC-Saturn. The certification included all required tests, i.e. off-line test, in particular, thermal-vacuum test, and integrated test in an aircraft propulsion system.

“SaM146 engines are real workhorses that are widely used on the SSJ-100 jets by Russian airlines. When our foreign partners had refused to continue cooperation, we faced a critical challenge of maintaining airworthiness of these propulsion systems. Work on replacement of imported components, including spark plugs, was started immediately, because the national transport safety depended directly on this. Rostec created, tested and launched manufacturing of these products in the shortest possible time, and the first batch has been already delivered to the operators,” said Vladimir Artyakov, First Deputy General Director of Rostec State Corporation.

SaM146 is an integrated propulsion system consisting of a turbofan and a nacelle with thrust reverser. Before imposition of the sanctions on Russia, the SaM146 were manufactured by UEC-Saturn on terms of equal partnership with Safran Aircraft Engines, France.
