The First Test of the “Heart” of the PD-35 has Exceeded the Expectations

Baranov Central Institute of Aviation Motors (CIAM) has completed the first test of PD-35 aircraft engine gas generator made by United Engine Corporation – the largest engine in modern-day Russia. The test was carried out in conditions simulating the full-size engine operation and demonstrated good convergence between the measured and design data for the gas generator. The test provided important information and experience to the engine designers and CIAM team for further development and refinement of the engine family based on the tested gas generator.

“The first test of PD-35 gas generator for long-range airliners has exceeded the expectations. The power plant designed by United Engine Corporation will be a real giant – there have not been such aircraft engines in our country yet. The fan diameter is 3.1 meters, thrust is 35 tons. Full-size engine operation was simulated during the test. For this, CIAM’s team has made unique test-bench equipment and software,” said Rostec’s representatives.

It has been an unparalleled test in terms of the depth of elaboration, the number of test-bench systems to be made and the number of measurements. More than 1500 parameters have been evaluated: pressure, temperature, forces, fuel and oil consumption, stresses, vibrations, pressure pulsations and many others.
